As circularity grows in importance, the plastics and polymer composites industry is committed to working together and with part suppliers and automakers to help the automotive industry transition to a more circular economy – we’re starting the conversation now! Mr. Jose Chirino will address ACC’s 2020 Transitioning to a Circular Economy for Automotive Plastics and Polymer Composites Report – and discuss the requirements and opportunities for the automotive industry and its suppliers to rethink the ways that vehicles and their materials are designed, constructed, used, and handled at end of life. Transitioning toward a more circular economy will allow the automotive plastics and composites industry to continue exceeding performance requirements and bring exceptional value throughout the supply chain. In essence, it’s a new, more comprehensive way of thinking about supply chain structure, material, and product design, and end-of-life recovery that has significant environmental benefits supports longer product lifetimes, and presents a potential $4.5 trillion opportunity by 2030 for businesses - $400–600 billion of which could go to automotive companies and their suppliers.
