Lincoln is upgrading the high-tech features on the Corsair midsize luxury CUV for ʼ23.
Available on the Corsair for the first time is Lincoln’s ActiveGlide 1.2 hands-free advanced driver-assistance system for highway driving that includes lane changing and in-lane positioning for speeds up to 80 mph (108 km/h).
Lincoln ActiveGlide initially appeared on the ’22 Navigator large luxury SUV, and the next-generation system brings additional capability to the ’23 Corsair. The system will perform a hands-free lane change when requested by the driver tapping the turn signal, and it can even suggest if a lane change would be beneficial when following slow-moving traffic, according to Lincoln.
The new Corsair and Corsair Grand Touring plug-in hybrid feature a larger 13.2-in. (34-cm) screen, SYNC4 connectivity with over-the-air updates and Auto Air Refresh.
The latter, a pandemic-inspired system engineered to constantly deliver fresh air into the cabin, pairs a laser sensor with a cabin air filter, ensuring that occupants are receiving high-quality air from outside and fresh air within the vehicle. Activated as soon as the vehicle starts, the system can refresh the air up to 1.5 times per minute.
An enhanced interior (pictured, above left) places an emphasis on the brand’s horizontal, signature design. The driver’s 12.3-in. (31-cm) LCD cluster comes standard with the Lincoln-unique Constellation digital interface.
On the ’23 Grand Touring version of the Corsair, the new grille features a sundown satin metallic foil with blue accents. Coupled with new, available wheel options that add personalization options, the new Corsair boasts a sleek, modern exterior look, Lincoln designers say.
“With the new Corsair, we are offering a glimpse into Lincoln’s new exterior design language and introducing new and more youthful colors and materials to offer more ways for our clients make their vehicle their own,” says Kemal Curic, global design director-Lincoln.
As Lincoln’s top-selling utility vehicle, Corsair is bringing new clients to the Ford luxury brand with more than 50% of sales coming from conquests, officials say.
“Corsair plays an important role in our portfolio – artistically crafted and expertly designed to attract younger Lincoln clients and give them the luxury experience they desire,” says Michael Sprague, North America director-Lincoln. Corsair sales have grown 21% this year and Lincoln wants to maintain the momentum, he says. “We want the drive experience to be even more effortless and personal and the new Corsair will deliver that with advanced technology and new features.”
For example, Predictive Speed Assist automatically adjusts the speed as drivers approach a sharp curve and will signal the driver ahead of time when a speed change is about to occur.
In-Lane Repositioning makes the hands-free highway driving experience feel more natural, keeping the vehicle in its lane while subtly steering it away from vehicles in adjacent lanes – especially helpful when next to larger vehicles. Intersection Assist 2.0 helps clients avoid potential collisions with pedestrians while turning.
Corsair will also debut Blind Spot Assist, which will alert the driver with a light on the sideview mirror and apply a nudge in the steering system to help caution against an unsafe action in case the driver has missed warnings from the Blind Spot Information System. The feature also will detect other vehicles and motorcyclists in Corsair’s blind spots.
Corsair will offer Alexa virtual-assistant technology with complimentary connectivity to Alexa for three years. Clients can use Alexa to listen to music, navigate, control smart home devices, add items to a shopping list and more, using voice commands such as “Alexa, find the closest gas station,” or “Alexa, play my road trip playlist.”
The Corsair is built at Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant in Louisville, KY. Orders are now being taken for the CUV, which will arrive in showrooms in early 2023.
