Hyundai launches the Ioniq 6, the second entry in the automaker’s battery-electric-vehicle sub-brand, promising advanced technologies, personalized space and extended range.
Dubbed the “Electrified Streamliner,” the sedan goes into production in the third quarter in Korea and North American sales will begin in first-quarter 2023, Hyundai officials say during an introductory news conference.
The Ioniq 6 delivers an estimated electric range of over 380 miles (610 km) – a 62-mile (100-km) improvement over the Ioniq 5 CUV introduced last year – as well as ultra-fast multi-charging capability made possible by Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
The Ioniq 6’s long-range 77.4-kWh battery can be mated with either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive electric-motor layouts. The top-of-the-line dual-motor setup is an AWD option producing a combined power output of 320 hp and 448 lb.-ft. (605 Nm) of torque. This configuration can take the BEV from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds.
Using the same battery as the Ioniq 5, the sedan can support both 400V and 800V charging infrastructures. While 800V charging is standard, it can accommodate 400V charging without the need for additional components or adapters. With a 350-kW charger, Ioniq 6 can charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.
Carried over from the Ioniq 5 is a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function enabled by an available accessory adapter that attaches to the outside charging port. This allows necessities to be powered during a power outage or camping, or for outdoor projects. A second outlet underneath the second-row seat is for charging laptops, phones and other devices.
The Ioniq 6 is 191 ins. (4,855 mm) long, 74 ins. (1,880 mm) wide and 59 ins. (1,495 mm) tall with a 116-in. (2,950-mm) wheelbase, supported by 20-in. or 18-in. wheels. The streamlined BEV has a low drag coefficient of just 0.21, its aerodynamics enhanced by a fully covered undercarriage.
Inside (pictured, above), the Ioniq 6’s modular touchscreen dashboard integrates a 12-in. (30-cm) infotainment display and 12-in. digital cluster that houses advanced technologies including real-time travel radius mapping based on the current state of charge. The system’s connected-car services also help search and plan the best route to include a charging station.
Hyundai says it has developed the BEV’s interior to serve as a comfortable and personalized hideaway. The Dual Color Ambient Lighting allows the driver to customize the look and feel of the cabin by selecting from among 64 colors and six pre-selected themes. The Speed Sync Lighting mode adjusts the brightness of the interior lighting in the first row based on the vehicle’s speed.
The bridge-type center console provides ample storage space and includes a “smart table” large enough to accommodate a laptop computer, Hyundai says.

“The innovative interior is meticulously thought out as a cocoon-like personal space, enhanced with the latest technologies to create a safe, fun and stress-free driving experience,” he says. “The spacious interior, with sustainability and usability at its heart, once again represents a step forward for electric vehicles, in line with the values of our customers.”
