Chevy Plants ICE Flag With Performance-Edition Tahoe

The ’23 Tahoe RST Performance Edition’s standard 6.2L V-8 produces 433 hp and 467 lb.-ft., an increase of 13 hp and 7 lb.-ft. over the current RST’s available 6.2L mill.

DETROIT – Chevrolet is putting all three of its battery-electric vehicles scheduled to debut next year into one display at the Detroit auto show.

But Steve Majoros, Chevrolet vice president-marketing, emphasizes the General Motors brand isn’t neglecting the internal-combustion-engine side of its business.

For example, Chevrolet recently took the wraps off the ’23 Colorado Trail Boss and Silverado ZRT pickup trucks, he notes.

Performance remains part of Chevy’s DNA as the new Corvette Z06, also on display in Detroit, demonstrates. President Biden slipped into the cockpit of a Z06 while visiting the auto show.

“It’s a great day for Chevrolet,” Majoros says. “I wouldn’t trade places with anyone.”

The ’23 Tahoe RST Performance Edition, unveiled during the NAIAS press preview, delivers more ICE power by introducing Chevrolet Performance induction and exhaust systems which increase the output of the standard 6.2L V-8 to 433 hp and 467 lb.-ft. (633 Nm), an increase of 13 hp and 7 lb.-ft. (9.5 Nm) over the current RST’s available 6.2L engine.

It runs the quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds at 97 mph (156 km/h) on the test track (compared with the base RST’s 14.4 seconds at 97 mph). Top speed on the test track is 124 mph (200 km/h), compared to 112 mph (180 km/h) for the base RST.

On the special edition, the V-8 is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The all-wheel-drive Tahoe RST Performance Edition leverages chassis, suspension and other elements from the pursuit-rated Tahoe PPV package for police, with many of the fullsize SUV’s dynamics calibrated by the same engineering team.

“The 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition is designed for those who want the best of both worlds – the everyday comfort and capability of a fullsize SUV along with the driving excitement of a true performance vehicle,” says Scott Bell, Chevrolet vice president.

“It leverages the proven capability of Chevy’s pursuit-rated police vehicle packages and motorsports success to offer a confident, engaging driving experience for our customers.”
