SsangYong announces the global unveiling of its all-new long-wheelbase Musso dual-cab utility vehicle.
Building on the Musso pickup, the long-wheelbase version is 12.2 ins. (310 mm) longer than the short-wheelbase version that went on sale late in 2018, increasing the length to 17.7 ft. (5.4 m).
The Korean automaker says it will give the LWB Musso one of the biggest load spaces in the market and increase the payload 30% from 1,741 lbs. (790 kg) to 2,248 lbs. (1,020 kg.)
It is 0.6 in. (15 mm) taller and the wheelbase extends 4.33 ins. (110 mm).
SsangYong, a subsidiary of India’s Mahindra & Mahindra, says the LWB Musso will use the same 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine as the SWB version. Torque has been increased from 295 lb.-ft. (400 Nm) to 310 lb.-ft. (420 Nm) but still reaches its peak at 1,400 rpm.
Other changes include the inclusion of a leaf-spring rear suspension designed to meet the heavy-duty demands expected by target customers, including tradespeople and farmers. The SWB version comes standard with a coil-spring rear suspension.
The vehicle has been launched in South Korea as the Khan, named after the famed Mongolian dynasty of the 13th century.
