German student staying with BMW dealer learns about U.S. auto retailing BMW of San Diego served as the ultimate learning machine for a German high school student with ambitions in the car business.
Sebastian Pubhanz, 18, got a first-hand look at American auto sales and service practices during a five- week stay with BMW of San Diego owner Tom Gossman and his family.
The connection of a German student with a dealer of German cars was no accident, says Craig Hauenstein, the dealership's general manager.
"Sebastian is obviously familiar with cars," says Mr. Hauenstein.
But beyond that he got an education in American retailing, in terms of size of stores and number of cars serviced.
"It is very different than in Europe, says Mr. Hauenstein.
"He's actively observed operations here while also enjoying all the fun San Diego has to offer."
BMW of San Diego is San Diego County's largest BMW dealership. Jake Gossman founded it in 1971.
McDonald is New Rolls-Royce West Coast VP James F. McDonald is the new vice president for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Inc.'s West Coast region.
Mr. McDonald joins the company from the Delta Chevrolet- Dodge-Mazda-Nissan dealership where he was president and was responsible for four franchises and three facilities.
Rolls-Royce also names Carmen Gautille to vice president of the Eastern region. John Bingham, a 15-year Rolls-Royce veteran, is vice president for the South Central region.
