Used-vehicle valuations for full-size SUVs and pickups increased at the end of the year, reversing an earlier 2008 trend.

Lower gas prices are boosting truck valuations, says Rich Kwas, an auto analyst for Wachovia.

He says lower gas prices and high inventories have led to slides in used-car segment valuations, such as compacts.

“The improvement in truck valuations is an encouraging sign that used-vehicle grosses and margins may be starting to stabilize,” Kwas says.

The rebound is pronounced in big truck markets, such as Texas and Oklahoma.
