Mazda says it is extending shutdowns at two key Japanese plants through the end of the week as a result of the March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
Originally, the auto maker planned to resume operations in Hiroshima and Hofu tomorrow, but it now says it will keep the plants closed until March 20 to ensure the safety and well being of its suppliers and their employees and families in the affected region.
Mazda says it will announce whether further extension of the shutdowns is needed on March 21.
