The cumulative production tally at Mazda Motor Corp.’s assembly plant in Hofu, Japan, breaks the 8 million mark, the auto maker announces.
Mazda credits strong, consistent global demand for the Mazda Axela small car, known as the Mazda3 outside Japan, for helping Hofu record its fastest-ever million-unit increment. Output increased from 7 million to 8 million in 23 months.
Last year’s launch of the all-new Mazda Atenza midsize car, known as the Mazda6 outside Japan, also contributed to the pace of production, the auto maker says.
Hofu opened in 1982.
