Ford Launches Fiesta Production in China

Further capacity for the Fiesta will be added later this month, as output begins at Ford’s Valencia, Spain, assembly plant.

Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. Ltd. today begins production of the new Ford Fiesta B-car at its assembly plant in Nanjing, China.

The facility is the first to produce both 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan versions of the Fiesta. Changan is the second plant to build the Fiesta. Output of 3- and 5-door versions of the car began in August at Ford’s Cologne, Germany, facility.

In just slightly more than two months on the market, more than 61,000 Fiesta have been sold in 19 European markets, making it Ford of Europe’s second-best selling model behind the Focus C-segment car.

Ford is hoping the Fiesta will enjoy similar success in China, when it goes on sale later in the first quarter.

Further capacity for the Fiesta will be added later this month, as output begins at Ford’s Valencia, Spain, assembly plant.

Other production facilities for the Fiesta outside of Europe will be Rayong, Thailand, and Cuautitlan, Mexico, which will begin building the car for their respective regions through early 2010, Ford says.

Fiestas to be sold in North America will be sourced from Cuautitlan.
