Phillip D. Brady is the new president of the National Automobile Dealers Association. He's the NADA Board of Directors' unanimous choice following an extensive search.

Mr. Brady succeeds Frank McCarthy, who died of cancer in February after serving as NADA's chief executive for 33 years. Mr. Brady pledged to build on that legacy.

“This is the beginning of a new era at NADA,” says Robert Maguire, NADA chairman. “We have been mourning the loss of Frank McCarthy, who did more for the franchised dealer than any one individual. We must now look forward to a new leadership that can further enhance opportunities for dealers.”

Mr. Brady has been NADA's chief operating officer of industry affairs for nearly three years.

He previously served six years as vice president and general counsel for the American Automobile Manufacturers Association. He also worked at the White House in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, and held positions at the Departments of Justice and Transportation.

His grandfather owned a Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealership in Southern California in the 1920s and his father was also a dealer.

“I can remember well my first job driving a parts truck at my father's dealership,” he says.

Mr. Brady is a cum laude graduate from the University of Notre Dame and Loyola University School of Law. He resides in Alexandria, VA with his wife and three children.
