Canada Big-Truck Sales Gain Again in September

The performance marks the 19th straight month of year-over-year gains for the sector.

September proved to be another solid month for medium- and heavy-duty truck makers in Canada, as sales jumped a combined 36.1% to 3,861 units.

The performance marks the 19th straight month of year-over-year gains for the sector and brought volume for 2011 up 32.7% to 27,427 vehicles.

Class 8 sales rose 38.7% on a daily basis to 2,336 units in September, led by a 52.5% spike for Daimler.

Volume-leader PACCAR also posted a strong 42.6% gain to 773 vehicles, while Volvo’s two brands enjoyed a 39.4% jump.

The overall 32.4% gain in medium-duty sales to 1,525 trucks was led by 138.9% and 63.6% increases in Class 6 and 5 demand, respectively.

That performance offset a 13.0% slump for Class 7 and a more modest 1.5% dip in Class 4 sales.
