A growing number of Americans think it is patriotic to drive a more fuel-efficient vehicle because it requires less fuel to run, helping to reduce U.S. dependency on foreign oil.

That is according to an Opinion Research Corp. national survey polling people of various political persuasions.

The survey indicates 71% of Americans agree that driving a fuel-efficient car is patriotic, including 66% of conservatives.

Polling last year indicated 66% of Americans agreed with that, including 57% of conservatives.
