Geneva Hybrid Supercars to Compete on Power

Insiders say the British model can go from 0-124 mph in 7 seconds, while the Italian car will take three-tenths of a second longer.

TURIN – Three of four supercars to be unveiled at the Geneva auto show that opens to the media Tuesday are trendsetting hybrid-electric models engineered for limited production, but it’s not yet known if the fourth, a Lamborghini, will offer a hybrid powertrain.

What is sure to be noticed, apart from their stunning looks, is the outrageous horsepower each of the cars will offer.

An early estimate of the four models to be presented by Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche is that three of them will be capable of 900 hp or better and one will come close.

The most affordable will be the Porsche 918 Spyder, which will be powered by a 4.6L V-8 complemented by two electric motors, one per axle, for a combined 800 hp.

The Ferrari is rumored to be close to 1,000 hp, while its direct competitor, the McLaren, will kick out 916 hp.

Insiders say the British supercar can go from 0-124 mph (200 km/h) in 7 seconds, while the Italian model will take three-tenths of a second longer.

Also not to be missed at the Geneva show will be the latest bespoke models from Bertone, Bugatti, Pagani and Pininfarina.
