Mercedes-Benz Strikes Egypt Production Deal

The Egyptian assembly operation will be set up by a local business partner, Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler says.

Mercedes-Benz will assemble cars in Egypt under a memorandum of understanding signed with the government of the Middle Eastern country.

“Egypt has been an important market of Daimler for passenger cars, buses and commercial vehicles for many years,” says Markus Schäfer, member of the Daimler AG Board of Management for Corporate Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

“In the long term, we create various potential for the country and the region through strategic cooperation for mobility topics. Thereby we contribute to stabilizing the economic environment.”

The assembly operation will be set up by a local business partner, Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler says in a news release. The memorandum of understanding also contains other potential fields of cooperation.

“In building up local car assembly, we will be able to structure our production network even more flexibly and efficiently and respond even better to the needs of our customers,” says Jörg Burzer, executive board member-Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain.

Mercedes-Benz Egypt already provides more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in the country with its import and sales organization, a central parts warehouse and authorized retailers and after-sales companies in Cairo, Gizeh, Alexandria and Hurghada. The Daimler subsidiary has been in operation since 1999.
