Mazda Sollers Adds Mazda6 Assembly in Russia

Executive Summary

The new model is the second in the mix at the JV plant in Vladivostok.

VIENNA – Volume assembly of the Mazda6 sedan from semi-knocked-down kits is under way at the Mazda Sollers Mfg. Rus plant in Vladivostok, Russia.

The Mazda6 marks the second model to be built at the joint venture, owned 50-50 by Mazda and Russian assembler Sollers. Kits are being supplied from a plant in Japan.

Mazda Sollers was inaugurated last September. Volume assembly of the Mazda CX-5 cross/utility vehicle began in October.

Production capacity of the new plant is 50,000 units, with the aim to double that figure and add a body and a paint shop in the future.

The Russian-built Mazda6 will be available with three equipment levels and eight colors.

In a sign of the importance of the market to Mazda, the car maker chose the Moscow auto show for the world premiere of the new Mazda6 sedan.

Mazda sold 10,625 vehicles in Russia through March, down 17.7 % from like-2012.
