The Audi A1 becomes the second premium car made in Spain after the Audi Q3 as production begins in Martorell.
The new compact model is being made exclusively at Spanish automaker SEAT’s plant and distributed to all the markets where it is sold, increasing the factory’s export volume, already above 80%.
Audi allocated the A1 to Martorell after the production success of the Audi Q3. The previous generation of the Audi A1 was made in Brussels, while the new Audi Q3 is built in Györ, Hungary.
Christian Vollmer, SEAT vice president-production and logistics, says the Audi A1 will be made under the highest quality standards, confirming Audi’s commitment to the Martorell factory as a strategic production location for the Volkswagen Group’s global network.
The new Audi A1 will be built in two shifts on the revamped Line 3 using the MQB A0 platform shared with the SEAT Ibiza and Arona.
With the addition of the Audi A1, production at Martorell has included three new models in the past 18 months, beginning in early 2017 with the fifth-generation Ibiza and followed a few months later by the new Arona urban CUV.
