Tavares Unveils Ambitious Growth Initiative for Stellantis

The Dare Forward 2030 plan calls for the addition of more electric vehicles, including the first battery-electric Jeep next year and a BEV version of the Ram 1500 pickup truck in 2024.

Stellantis is rolling out a sweeping strategic plan aiming to transform the company into a technologically advanced mobility venture aiming for doubled revenues and double-digit profit margins.

Dare Forward 2030 calls for the addition of more battery-electric vehicles, including the first BEV Jeep next year and a BEV version of the Ram 1500 pickup truck in 2024.

It also calls for increasing online sales of new vehicles over the next decade and for capturing revenue from new services and software developed by its own staff, according to CEO Carlos Tavares.

Stellantis also will have its own captive-finance operations in North America by the start of 2023, he says.

One of the company’s biggest goals is become carbon neutral by 2038, Tavares (pictured, below left) says while outlining the plan for analysts and journalists.

By 2030, the plan calls for all the vehicles Stellantis sells in Europe, including Fiat, Opel, Citroen, Peugeot, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and DS, to be 100% battery-electric, Tavares says. The CEO is skeptical personally of the underlying demand for BEVs but notes governments in Europe are implementing regulations that effectively ban internal-combustion engines.

Taking a leadership role in decarbonization is Stellantis’ contribution to a sustainable future, Tavares says, adding, “As part of that leadership, we are setting the course for 100% of sales in Europe and 50% of sales in the United States, where regulation is not as strict, to be battery-electric by 2030.”

The 2030 plan calls for a U.S. product offensive that will launch 25 all-new BEVs by the end of the decade.

“We plan to have more than 75 BEVs and reach global annual BEV sales of 5 million vehicles by 2030,” Tavares adds.

The CEO expects revenues from the premium and luxury-vehicle segments to increase from 4% now to 11% at the end of the decade.

Stellantis also is recruiting the employees needed to build the new electrified vehicles envisioned in the plan, which also emphasizes operational excellence, speed-of-execution and a breakeven point of less than 50% of shipments.

At the same time, Stellantis expects to double its revenues by 2030 and sustain double-digit adjusted operating income margins throughout the decade.

Stellantis also plans to maintain its standing in the commercial-vehicle market through by 26 new launches and electric offerings in all segments, beginning with the Ram Pro Master Van, which will launch next year after the battery-electric Jeep. A new commercial-vehicle division will collaborate with Waymo on building autonomous vehicles for sustainable delivery-as-a-service businesses.

The company will expand hydrogen-fuel-cell technology to large vans in 2024. 

Tavares says nearly one-third of the company’s sales in 2030 will be conducted online through a global digital marketplace offering customers a seamless journey through the entire Stellantis array of products and services, including mobility services and sales of pre-owned vehicles.
