Mitsubishi and Renault will extend their modular approach to vehicle production with the Japanese brand marketing two of its French partner’s models in the European market.
Beginning in 2023, Mitsubishi will sell two “sister models” produced in Renault plants to be based on the same platforms but reworked to reflect Mitsubishi’s characteristics. A model mix of the newly launched Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV and the Renault-developed sister models is hoped to make the Japanese automaker more competitive on the continent.
The move is in line with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s production announcement in May 2020, to help its members keep working on initiatives to enhance competitiveness and further growth for the three partner companies by exploiting each other’s respective leadership positions and geographic strengths.
