Land Rover is marking the 50th anniversary of the Defender by awarding one of the utility vehicles to seven U.S.-based charitable organizations.
Entrants can nominate a nonprofit charity or nonprofits can nominate themselves by submitting both an entry form and a three-minute video that shares what the charity is about, how it addresses a need in the community and how a Land Rover Defender would help further its efforts.
Nominations are being accepted through April 7 in two categories, Search and Rescue and Coastal and Marine Conservation.
Submissions open May 3 and close June 1 in the Animal Welfare and First Responders categories. Submissions open June 28 and close July 27 in the Environmental, Urban Improvement and Fire Services categories.
Once selected by a panel of qualified judges, finalists’ videos will be posted on Land RoverUSA.com for public voting before submissions for the next categories take place. All winners will be announced Sept. 2.
Each custom Defender will be specially tailored to serve the needs of the winning organizations.
“Defender vehicles have been used for various humanitarian causes around the world for decades and with its recent return to the U.S., we wanted to expand on that legacy with ‘The Defender Above & Beyond Service Awards’ and celebrate organizations that know the value of community and drive to do great things with them,” Joe Eberhardt, President and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America, says in a news release.
“Over this past year, we have been inspired by the endless acts of service from people who embody the ‘Above and Beyond’ spirit of Land Rover, and we’re excited to reward these individuals with new customized Defender vehicles so they can continue to help those around them.”

The 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 is on sale now in the U.S. and is priced from $50,500. The Defender 90 body style, also on sale now in the U.S., is priced from $46,100.
