The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated certain segments of the economy but not the online purchase of car parts and accessories.
New data from parts commerce software company RevolutionParts finds auto parts e-commerce on the rise and showing no sign of slowing down.
Purchases processed through the company’s e-commerce platform grew 28% in 2020, from $328 million to $421 million, according to RevolutionParts’ annual Parts eCommerce Report.
“The pandemic really accelerated the growth of consumers looking to purchase parts online,” Ibrahim Mesbah, RevolutionParts’ CEO, says in a news release.
RevolutionParts predicts online parts sales will continue in 2021, with a projected growth rate of 29%.
“Parts were a bright spot for many dealers in 2020 and will grow even brighter in 2021,” Mesbah says.
Other findings from the report:
- The percentage of purchases made on a mobile device grew 11% in 2020 to 45%, making the mobile-friendly shopping experience more important than ever.
- Dealers saw their eBay sales grow almost 38.5% from 2019 to 2020, demonstrating the importance of online marketplaces.
- Despite the pandemic, part and accessory sales exceeded 2019 levels every month in 2020.
Data from the report is based on responses from the 1,367 dealers using the RevolutionParts platform, who received a total of 6.1 million orders and 148 million unique web store visits.
