BMW Group stages its first Test Fest this week at the Thermal Club private racetrack southeast of Palm Springs, CA – a chance for journalists to drive the all-new X2 CUV and exhilarating M5 high-performance sedan, both going on sale in March.

The event included autocross racing with i3s electric vehicles and John Cooper Works Minis. In all, 60 vehicles were available to drive on road or track, including the new Rolls-Royce Phantom.

No diesels were available, although the automaker insists diesel is part of its future powertrain portfolio. Instead, BMW discussed plans to introduce 25 electrified vehicles by 2025. BMW operates its Performance Center West at Thermal Club to help owners hone their driving skills.
