Mercedes-Benz’s new midsize coupe and convertible will make their global debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Key features of the ’14 models, which go on sale this summer, are updated front- and rear-end styling, freshened interior design and a long list of active safety technologies.
The most noticeable design changes are new headlamps that contain all functional elements within a single lens and more V-shaped front bumpers with large air intakes that lend a sportier appearance.
The headlamps are fitted with partial light-emitting diodes as standard equipment and full LED technology is available as an option.
The new coupe and convertible also offer safety systems now available in the E-Class sedan and wagon that use advanced sensors and cameras to produce a 3-dimensional view of the area up to 165 ft. (50 m) in front of the vehicle. The system can detect objects ahead up to a range of 1,640 ft. (500 m) to help avoid impacts with vehicles and pedestrians.
Interesting options include an enhanced steering assist function that can help the driver keep the vehicle centered in its lane and semi-autonomously track lines of traffic.
An available braking assist feature can detect pedestrians and initiate autonomous braking to avoid a collision at speeds up to 30 mph(48 km/h).
