Honda Investing $215 Million in Ohio Operations

The money will go toward increasing production capability at Honda’s Anna engine plant, as well as for a new building in Marysville that will house a training and heritage center.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Honda is investing $215 million in various Ohio facilities, Rick Schostek, senior vice president-Honda North America, reveals this morning at the Management Briefing Seminars here.

Some $180 million is going toward expanding aluminum die-casting and parts production capacity at Honda’s Anna, OH, engine plant, home to the new Earth Dreams family of engines and transmissions featured in such models as the ’13 Honda Accord.

The latest outlay brings Honda’s Anna spending over the past three years to more than $500 million, with previous cash infusions backing the launch of direct-injected engines and localizing pulley production for continuously variable transmissions.

The remaining $35 million of Honda’s latest Ohio investment is earmarked for construction of a 160,000-sq.-ft. (14,864-sq.-m) facility in Marysville that will house a training center and heritage center, as well as the newly established Honda North America Services operation. The new unit transferred to Ohio about 50 positions formerly located at American Honda’s sales and marketing facility in Torrance, CA.

The new Marysville construction will be completed in fall 2014, and the heritage center, which will cover Honda’s 36-year history in North America, will be open to the public.

The Marysville training center, as well as one set to open in Anna, will “provide Honda engineers, equipment service technicians and line-side associates with unique opportunities to develop skills that will refine their technical know-how in a hands-on environment,” the auto maker says.
